The romantic tea dress was worn between three p.m. and six p.m. each day.  It was a romantic garment with a sheath and flowing over layers in lace, chiffon and tulle.  It usually hit at the ankle and was free of corsetry.

The Edwardian period was a sensual time as the mood was lighter.  Women shed the cumbersome styles of the Victorian era and dresses became shorter and looser.  With the industrial revolution, women had more time on their hands, so afternoon teas became prevalent.  They would wait for their callers who were stopping by for tea...many times these callers were male. The age of love was born.
